The visuals of The Last Edge span commissioned work from talented artists to homespun photo-editing and AI generated imagery.
Commissioned in Summer 2022 and partially based on cosplay reference images. This was the first piece of concept art created for The Last Edge and was critical to early work on the project. The microstory Public Relations was written later to accompany it - and to incorporate it as a piece of in-universe art depicting Seonac as a folk hero - as part of the Postcards From Pamarthe series.

Commissioned in Summer 2022 and partially based on cosplay reference images. This piece of concept art informed early story planning and character work. The microstory Port In A Storm was written later to accompany it as part of the Postcards From Pamarthe series.
Commissioned in early 2023 with a story idea already in mind as part of the Postcards From Pamarthe series.
The microstory One Good Deed illustrated here shows us a quiet moment after the war that didn't easily fit into plans for larger stories.

In the absence of a cosplay or other rights-free reference image for these characters, AI art generator Wonder was used to generate a range of options and arrive at a base image. Some basic editing, embellishment (addition of the lightsaber and green fire) and filtering was undertaken to achieve a degree of consistency with some of the other images being used where budget for commissioned art was lacking.
AI image generation was again used to work up a range of options for some of the characters that would appear in later stories. Here the three characters at the bottom (left to right: Nomi, Maggs, and Loosh) were AI generated then composited with original photo and third party elements to arrive at the final composition.
